Here’s another frost image from the backyard. I included the dead grass in the background to add some more color and enhance the wintery feel. Photographed on February 1, 2009.

Frozen Grass
We’re still getting frost in the mornings, so yesterday I went and made some macro images in the backyard. Photographed on February 1, 2009.
Ice Crystals 3
Here’s one more image from the ice crystals series. Photographed on January 19, 2009.
Ice Crystals 2
Here’s another image from the ice crystals series. I chose to use a shallow depth of field for this one. Photographed on January 19, 2009.
Ice Crystals
The weather here has stayed cold, so I went looking for ice crystals again yesterday. I was lucky to find them on the same hike. This shot of ice-covered leaves reminds me of gingerbread cookies. Photographed on January 19, 2009.
Heart of Winter
We went hiking on Saturday, and I found some really amazing ice crystals once we got up out of the valley. Unfortunately I didn’t have my tripod with me, since this was a family outing, so I had to shoot this handheld. I didn’t watch my shutter speed carefully and ended up with a touch of motion blur. I could probably print this at 8×10, but no larger. Oh well, I still really like the composition. Photographed on January 18, 2009.
Hawk Sunset
I was photographing this dramatic sunset, when a hawk happened to fly into the frame. It provided the extra element that I was looking for. Photographed on January 11, 2009.
Ships at Sunset
I like how the evening star is balanced in the composition by the lights of the two ships out at sea. Photographed on January 9, 2009.
Sunset Reflections
This image was taken about forty minutes after sunset, but there was still quite a lot of color in the sky that was reflecting onto the wet sand. Photographed on January 9, 2009.
Evening Star
Here’s another one from the Oregon coast. At this point it was starting to get dark after the sunset, so I included the evening star in the composition. Photographed on January 9, 2009.
