I recently started volunteering at the local animal shelter, taking pictures of the dogs that are available for adoption. This guy loved having his belly rubbed. Photographed on August 16, 2008.

Pied-billed Grebe
Another image from the local widlife refuge. I was watching several pied-billed grebes from a blind, and I liked the pattern created by the ripples from their dives. Photographed on August 15, 2008.
Early Morning
Early morning at the local wildlife refuge. I liked the lush green background, and I waited for the duck to rise up and spread its wings. I’m not 100% happy with the execution here, so I’d like to reattempt the image at some point. Photographed on August 15, 2008.
Feral Cat 2
I was asked to photograph a local feral cat colony the other day. Most of the cats were actually quite used to humans, as they seemed to spend a lot of time around the owner of the farm where the colony was located. But this cat was truly feral…it was hiding out in the barn and regarded me with deep suspicion. After a few frames it retreated back between the hay bales. The missing corner on the right ear (viewer’s left) means that it has been fixed. Photographed on August 12, 2008.
Feral Cat
I was asked to photograph a local feral cat colony the other day. It was on a farm, and I liked this image of the cat under an old tractor. The missing corner on the right ear (viewer’s left) means that it has been fixed. Photographed on August 12, 2008.
Rabbit
I went down to the wildlife refuge this morning to test my “new” Nikon 500mm lens, which I’ve adapted to use with Canon. A review is in the works. Photographed on August 12, 2008.
Sunflower
The sunflowers at my house are finally opening. This one is still only half open, that’s why you can see some petals poking into the top of the frame. Photographed on August 5, 2008.
Pelicans
I discovered that there are some pelicans at my local wildlife refuge. The longest focal length I had with me was 200mm, so I composed this environmental image and timed it for when the leftmost pelican spread its wings. Photographed on July 31, 2008.
Willamette Valley Wheat Field
On my way to the wildlife refuge in the morning, I drove past some wheat fields. Looks like it’s almost ready to harvest. That’s Mary’s Peak on the left of the horizon. Photographed on July 31, 2008.
Yellow Lab Puppy
I went over to see my friend’s new yellow lab puppy. It’s only about two months old. Here he is taking a break from chewing on a toy bone. Photographed on July 28, 2008.
